Where do you source your beef from?

Our farm, located in Rumuruti, Laikipia County, serves as the primary site for raising and nourishing our cattle until they reach maturity for slaughter.

For further details on our sourcing and breeding process, you can explore the 'Our Journey' page.

What breeds of cattle do you work with?

Indigenous cattle breeds such as Boran and Sahiwal are prominent in our local area, renowned for their resilience and exceptional quality.

Is Ongole Beef cattle grain fed or grass fed?

Once our steers are almost reaching slaughter age, we grass feed our cattle which helps in increasing the marbling.

What’s the difference between grass and grain fed?

Grain fed beef comes from steers who are kept in pastures and fed a diet consisting of hay, grain and other feeds intended to fatten them up. Grass fed beef is naturally raised, grazes natural grasses and vegetation and is much leaner than grain fed.

Does your meat undergo aging, and if so, what is the process for aging your beef?

Yes, we offer aged meat. Our beef undergoes meticulous dry aging, resulting in exceptional flavor and tenderness. Beef is stored uncovered in a refrigerated room (32°F to 34°F) under controlled humidity and air flow for a minimum of 14 days.

Dry aging results in a distinctive brown-roasted beefy flavor. Our signature 21-day aged beef provides a sublime culinary experience.

Additionally, we offer customized aging periods to cater to the specific taste preferences of chefs and establishments. For inquiries about bespoke aging periods, please contact us at sales@ongolebeef.co.ke.

What is the best way to cook a steak?

It’s easiest in a skillet or on a grill, its best directly over fire.

Remember to always leave steaks to rest for a few minutes after cooking.

How do you ensure the quality and safety of your beef?

We ensure the quality and safety of our beef by adhering to meticulous measures at every stage of production, including stringent controls from sourcing, hygiene and slaughter, through processing to packaging.

In addition to these measures, our facilities strictly adhere to food safety standards and Halal procedures.

Our beef undergoes comprehensive regulatory inspection and testing to meet the exacting quality standards demanded by the Kenyan market.
